Description
In addition to original colorways, the 1987 classic is set to launch in modern-day “Honeydew” and “Dark Smoke Grey” styles – both atop the silhouette’s “Utility” variant. Lockdown straps across the forefoot are giving an outdoorsy, rugged aesthetic accomplished by a plastic buckle and canvas strap. High-quality leather panels throughout the upper are accompanied by a plethora of reflective strips, which follow curved shapes reminiscent of that produced by the experimental Nike Alpha Project; a multi-color gradient finish is also applied to the non-standard mesh panels at the mid-foot, further helping create a fun update to the decades-old cross-training sneaker. Sole units aren’t reworked with Nike React foam or a trail-ready outsole, but midsoles are given an all-yellow look that seemingly taps into the “Neo-Vintage” trend that’s taken over social media feeds over the last year. Lastly, the black and greyscale-covered Air Trainer 1 features a robust pull tab at the tongue, which will surely lead some consumers to take the shoes on excursions through nature.
